Eastwood Knolls International School (EKIS) opened its doors in 1963 and has been an integral part of the community and the stepping-stone for El Paso’s Finest (Eastwood High School). EKIS is a community school that currently offers two language strands. Parents may enroll their child in either a Standard English Monolingual or in the Two-Way Dual Language International Program.

For over 20 years, EKIS has offered its community the opportunity to be part of a Two-Way Dual Language program where students learn both English & Spanish through a rigorous and culturally rich curriculum. Students learn to read and write in Spanish in the lower grades and slowly transition into English. Part of this program is the opportunity to learn a third language. Students learn content, while at the same time gain a better understanding and control of a second language.

Students who are in the two-way Dual Language program are also part of the international component, where they can learn Mandarin Chinese. Kinder through 8th-grade Dual Language students receive Chinese instruction daily as part of their fine arts block. The EKIS Chinese department has been named a 'Confucius Classroom' for its attempts to promote the Chinese language and culture. Our teachers meticulously prepare lessons that immerse students in the language, traditions, and customs. Without a doubt, the Eastwood Knolls International Dual Language program strives to achieve bilingualism, biliteracy, and biculturalism through a variety of strategies & experiences that will develop well-rounded global citizens ready to make a difference in our community.

STEM
In 2016 EKIS introduced the first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) class to a select group of 6th grade students. The course addresses Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in a curriculum, to prepare students for higher learning, and to acquire 21st Century Skills. It explores concepts through an engineering design point-of-view which guides students through steps in solving problems. This course is a year-long elective class offered to select 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Class assignments will be varied to include digital form through an “online classroom,” research papers and hands-on activities.

Band and Orchestra
EKIS Band and Orchestra have consistently received Superior Ratings at UIL, as well as local contests.  All Fine Arts have been recognized as an integral part of success for the school.
